At NELSON WADE we believe that when you plan for a formal event such as seasonal occasions or a wedding, the design qualities of a formal shirt reflect ones sense of style.

A classic white tuxedo shirt is essential formal evening wear and should be considered a staple in your closet as well…..

I design classic, elegant tuxedo shirts with light weight 120′s or 140′s Egyptian super fine cotton from the region of the river Nile. There is nothing better than a client looking at ease with what he is wearing, so an understated classic tuxedo shirt should be designed and cut so that the shirt is comfortable enough to wear for an evening of events.

In today’s modern times, I am designing the tuxedo shirt for my clients with 3 basic front shirt bodies. The most popular front shirt body is our hand soft formed pleated breast, which can be designed with a variety of pleat widths; 1/4″, 3/8″, 1/2″ and 3/4″ widths are standard. Also a full vertical pleated shirt body front is being asked for more and more from my clients. This style gives you the option not to wear a cummerbund or waistcoat.

The flat smooth bib shaped double layer of cotton, front shirt body is another option for a very classic tuxedo look. I design the bib area with a width no wider than to the line inside of suspenders and the bottom of the bib to be just above the waist. I recommend limiting the shirt starch only to the bib area. This will prevent the shirt front from billowing when sitting down.

The third option of a shirt body would be Marcella (Pique), the white on white textured fine cotton fabric with no pleats and with or without a cover placket. This shirt body front is becoming very popular with my clients since It compliments a single breasted tuxedo or even a dark Blue/black suit. This works exceptionally well for semi-formal occasions.

A contemporary collar is the Turn Down Collar with a 2 1/2 or 3 point collar length, medium spread and zero spacing at the collar connection. Most of the collars that I design are also edge stitched verses the standard 1/4″ from edge stitching collar detail. Edge stitching certainly adds a more elegant custom look to your collar.

Our formal tuxedo shirts that do not have covered front plackets come with removal buttons, which gives you the opportunity to use a variety of stud styles. Of course Black Onyx studs with either gold or silver trim is best for a classic formal presentation.

Your shirt sleeve cuffs should be Double or Square French Cuffs, especially for those dressy formal occasions, with Black Onyx cuff links to match the chosen studs. For those semi-formal occasions, Round Corner French Cuffs look very elegant and are a great alternative detail.

With the very large variety of cuff links that are now available in menswear, it’s fun to wear cuff links that reflect your sense of style or personality at those semi-formal events.

This season contact NELSON WADE for your classic custom formal tuxedo shirt. We have a variety of fabrics with very unique patterns that are also available for custom made to measure tuxedos.
