For the summer, 90% pure wool is combined with 10% silk to achieve a subtle shine effect. In summer light, the fabric becomes even more alive with highly contemporary elegance.

Over the years we’ve seen many variations in buttons on suit jackets and sport coats. As of late, the most popular has been the 3 button version. Several years prior, we even saw 4 buttons in the marketplace. In retrospect, that look was probably best reserved for 6′ 8″ basketball players. For the rest of us mere mortals, the only thing missing from our 4 button sign-board look alike suit jackets was the message “Eat at Joe’s” printed on the front and the back. By now you’ve noticed the shift back toward the all time classic 2 button suit jackets. (Now, what to do about all those 3 button jackets I’ve got. Hmm…) Well, if that weren’t enough change for you to digest, here’s a little bit more;

Enter the One Button Suit Jacket…

Custom One Button Suit

Now, I’m not suggesting you run out to try to be ‘ahead of the curve’ and replace all of your 3 button suits jackets with single button ones. Not at all. But, you might find that throwing a few into your wardrobe might vary things up very nicely. For example, a solid black single button suit with a crisp white dress shirt and pocket square makes for an well dressed ensemble for an upscale evening out. But make no mistake, you’ll need a heavy dose of confidence added in for good measure. Chances are, you’ll be the only one in the room rocking this look. Wear it well!

At NELSON WADE, we’ll custom make a custom single button suit to fit your body and your lifestyle. We have a variety of fabrics, colors, and styles to choose from. You can also get custom shirts to match. We’ll also help you accessorize with cufflinks, leather goods, and handmade luxury ties. You’ll be sure to impress whoever it is that needs impressing.

Barack Obama is a roll model. He is mentally, physically, and emotionally fit. That fitness trifecta has unveiled itself in many ways; most notably as a person who has risen above hardship and has achieved success.

President Elect Barack Obama fitness has emerged as a result of years of hard work and dedication to all that he believes to be true and correct in his life.

Mr. Obama is a tall, slender, athletic guy who’s conscious of what he eats (no junk food please), balances a rest to workout regime, enjoys a friendly game of pickup basketball, (yep, he can shoot three-pointers) and understands the importance of a fine tailored, made to measure suits.

A local Chicago newspaper said that Barack Obama’s suit style has become somewhat of a fashion hit in the past few months. Chicago retailers say that local suit shoppers have been requesting similar fabrics and tailoring as the Illinois Senator turned President Elect.

As a lawyer, Obama feels quite at home in a suit. He knows what he wants and what looks good on him.

However, Barack’s taste for customization has developed over the past several weeks. He recently purchased 5 made to measure suits from a Chicago tailor. He wears a 40 long and has a 33-inch waist. Each suit is a two button single breasted, 97 percent merino wool, 3 percent cashmere, with pleated pants, and 1 ½ inch cuff. These “Obama suits” would typically cost shoppers around $1,500 each off the rack in Chicago department stores.

Obama’s style is simple, yet classic with an executive feel. That’s important for a man in his position. People want to see their President walking around with a demeanor that is dignified in both speech and appearance.

Clothing that is extravagant or overtly expensive could most certainly send the wrong message to the public. It’s a line Obama seems to walk effortlessly.

At NELSON WADE, we know custom made to measure suits are a must in today’s business world. It is critical that your fitness shows from the inside out. Wearing a customized suit eludes confidence, success, and is an extension of your personality. Whether you prefer your suits in Italian, American, or in the style of a bespoke men’s tailor on Savile Row in London England, we’ll help you create the look that fits your lifestyle. We also have a vast array of fabrics, colors, and textures to choose from. We’ll finalize your look with a plethora of shirt and tie options to help you complete your own of version of the Commander in Chief.

So you want to buy a new suit. Maybe it is an off the rack designer suit or even better, it is a fine custom merino wool made to measure suit from NELSON WADE. Either way the question currently is….. “which style of suit should I buy, two or three button?”

A former CEO once stated that a “suit is the vehicle by which you create a first impression” and we all know in the business world, the first impression is the only impression! So it’s important to present yourself correctly in a business suit.

At NELSON WADE we feel that choosing a 2 or 3 button suit is really your own preference. However, based upon your height and waist size, there are certain characteriztics that are important to consider before you make that choice.

The V-point of your lapels on a 2 button suit jacket is usually lower and adds length to the presentation of your torso, whereas a 3 button suit jacket V-point position is much higher on the chest.

For example, tall men ( over 6′-4″ ) may not look best in a 2 button suit. Considering the Gorge dimension. ( What is a Gorge dimension? It’s the dimension from top of the shoulders to the first top button. ) But, on the other hand a shorter gentleman wearing a 3 button suit can look stockier. So, for a shorter gentleman a 2 button suit will be much more appropriate.

We have been recommending the classic 2 button to our clients of average height. Why? It’s truly a classic look that never is out of style. Most finer bespoke or made to measure English and Italian suit makers design their suits with 2 buttons with either peaked or notch lapels, and of course center rear vent is a standard. However, a double sided rear vent is not only much more practical, but it also creates an stately, elegant appearance to your suit jacket, especially if you like to put your hands in your front pockets. With the spread of a rear center suit vent, you tend to show your rear side to everyone.

Just a side note, when your buttons are done up for a business interview or introduction to someone, your bottom button of either 2 or 3 button suit jacket should be unbuttoned.

At NELSON WADE we design and create our suits each differently, to suit our clients personal tastes and desires!

All of our suits are hand cut fabric, matching the color and pattern. The collars are handcrafted and the shoulders are hand shaped and sewn. The edges of the suit jackets are usually hand-pick stitches. (Note: Be aware of simulated pick stitching on suit jacket lapels and jacket edging from off the the rack suits retailers. They are often not hand stitch, but are machine sewn, which really indicates the suit is not hand made, cut or sewn hallmark details of a bespoke or made to measure garment.)

Of course with all of this being said….. another classic suit style is the 4/6 button double breasted jacket with peaked lapels, double side vents and ticket flap pocket above the right side regular flap pocket.

But, that is another topic for another day…..

Live well. Dress Well!

What defines Super Fine wool fabric that can be used for a Made to Measure Suit and what does a micron have to do with it?
Post from: NELSON WADE Magazine

Micron What?

What defines Super Fine wool fabric that can be used for a Made to Measure Suit and what does a micron have to do with it?

Ultra fine wool fibers are available from fine Merino sheep. Sheep farmers have been encouraged by price to take greater care of their herds of Merino sheep. The Merino sheep are now providing finer wool fibers from the underbelly and throat region. These special lots of Merino wool are then divided and sorted by what is called a “micron count”. A standard unit of wool measurement is the micron, which is one thousandth of a millimeter. Wool counts for made to measure suits start at 100′s to the ultra fine wool of 200′s.

Holland & Sherry, which is a cloth weaver from Peebles, Scotland established in 1836 makes fine suiting fabric for made to measure suits. Their special lots of Merino wool are sorted into different micron fiber thicknesses. Holland & Sherry’s, Super 170′s wool suiting fabric is 14 to 15 micron fiber thickness. Super 150′s is 15 to 15.5 microns thickness and Super 140′s is 15.5 to 16 micron fiber thickness and so on.

The performance of these wool fibers depends on how they are spun. You can spin the merino wool fibers into heavier thick wool yarn or they can be spun into very fine, thin ultra light weight wool fibers which will produce the higher wool counts as noted above.

Some of the thicker wool that is spun into more rounded wool yarn can produce a high quality feel to the touch, which is finer than some commercial cashmere.

There are two basic types of wool fabrics for fine custom made to measure suits, worsted and woolen. The worsted wool fabric is made from the longer fibers and has a smooth appearance or finish of the fabric, less fuzzy. Worsted wool is generally cooler to wear and lighter in weight. Wollen fabrics tend to have a bulkier, warmer look and are made from the shorter fibers. Wollen fibers tend to be fuzzier with a full warm appearance.

Another world renowned fabric house is Ermenegildo Zegna from Italy. Their 15 micron worsted wool comes from the Australian Merino sheep. It has exceptional softness and body.

Another fabric line from Zegna is “Trofeo”. The long fibers of the “superfine” Merino wool is spun to around 17 microns. The “Superfine” wool fabric that is made from the Australian Merino sheep only accounts for 15% of the “Superfine” Merino wool – a very low quantity. The long fibers of the Merino wool are spun to around 17 microns. Zegna then enhances the characteristics of the “Superfine” worsted wool with a series of weaves, weights and types of finishes that provide a very elegant fabric for very made to measure suits and formal wear.

At NELSON WADE, we are very excited to carry the lines of Holland & Sherry and Ermenegildo Zegna. These suiting fabrics will add a unique and elegant Made to Measure suit to your custom suit collection.

Okay let’s be honest; it’s nice when someone compliments you on your attire, isn’t it?

We appreciate when our efforts to look good don’t go unnoticed. As men, we don’t give nearly as much thought and attention to detail as do our female counterparts (and their finished product is oh so good to behold), but when we dress up we like to look our best too.

Have you ever seen your shirt, your tie, your suit, on someone else? Of course you have. Why? Because there are only so many men’s clothing stores, and everyone shops at the same places. So, it’s inevitable that you’ll see some of the same articles of clothing you own being worn by other people you encounter.

Consider this also; haven’t there been times when you bought a suit that just wasn’t fitted the way you’d like? You had it altered, but instead of feeling great, it was “good enough”. What about those shirts that you can hardly lift your arms in? Guess that’s why they were on sale…

There’s a much better way to wear your clothes – customization. At NELSON WADE, you can order Made to Measure shirts, ties, and suits. We’ll take your body measurements and custom design your clothing that doesn’t just look nice on the hanger or in the package, but feels great on.

You pick the fabrics, textures, colors, etc. We’ll design your clothing around they way you like your clothes to fit your body.

Clothes should let you move unrestricted, freely.

NELSON WADE’s Made to Measure clothing will do just that, each and every time. And there’s a great chance that you won’t be seeing your clothes on someone else anytime soon.
